  1. We are incredibly grateful to Morning Coffee for their warmth during our visits to Ethiopia to bring home our two little girls. Birtukan, her family, and her staff were absolutely amazing and I really don’t know how we would have made it through those first couple of days without them.

    Thank you again!

Morning Coffee Guest House is truly a “Home away from Home!” We were so blessed by Birtukan and her fabulous staff! When traveling with children, it is an AMAZING blessing to be able to freely move about the multiple common living rooms and playrooms instead of being limited to one room as in a hotel. Our 6 & 7 year olds are Very Busy! The transition time for our Family – moving from a family of 3 to a family of 4 – was exactly what we needed! I would not only recommend this establishment, but also IMPLORE you to stay an additional day or two as well! 🙂

We made lifelong friends when we stayed at Morning Coffee Guest House. Birtukan, the staff and her family welcomed us with open arms and were so hospitable. The food is amazing! Birtukan and her staff spent time teaching us how to cook traditional food. There is a playroom and outside courtyard that is wonderful for the children to run around. We felt so blessed by our time here.

I stayed with five other ladies at the guest house and each of us were SO impressed! I had heard that Birtukan and Nesibu would treat us like family – but I didn’t realize how true that was. The rooms were comfortable and not too small. I really appreciated that they had BOTH american food AND Ethiopian food… some of the ethiopian food was too spicy for my stomach so it was nice having the other option! Oh, and her fruit smoothies for breakfast are AMAZING!!!!! You will be inspired by their vision for the the families that they are ministering to. They are very kind and the staff is incredibly helpful. Upstairs even has a small balcony. I believe 30 or 40% of what you pay goes directly to Yezelalem Minch – their ministry to care for widows, families and orphans. You will not be disappointed.

  5. Sarah Cross says:

We had such an amazing experience at the Morning Coffee House. We often talk about how much we miss Ethiopia and Birtukan. Her family was wonderful and the women who worked there were so great. It really felt like a family away from home. I am so glad we stayed there and hope that other families had the same experience.

  6. Dan Teefey says:

Morning Coffee is the best! We were blessed to stay with Birtukan and Nesibu and were touched by their hospitality and care. Their passion and faithfulness show in their treatment of all of their guests.

The food was excellent and our room was a perfect fit for us. We loved interacting with the other families staying at the guesthouse and visiting with the Morning Coffee staff.

We will stay at Morning Coffee every time we go to Ethiopia. Thank you.

We had a fantastic time during our week-long stay and Morning Coffee Guesthouse! Birtukan and her staff are amazing and obviously care about their guests. All of the food is homemade, and it is delicious! I urge you to stay there if you have the chance!

When we stay at Morning Coffee it is like staying with family. Burtikan and the staff go out of their way to be sure that you feel comfortable. The food is amazing and can’t be duplicated because all who stay there have tried! We would highly recommend staying at Morning Coffee. Morning Coffee will always be our first choice<3

There is no other place we would want to stay on a return visist to Ethiopia. Our week staying with Birtukan and all the staff was so relazing, comfortable and enjoyable I can’t imagine a better situation. If you are in Ethiopia for adoption your week has the potential to be very stressful. All of the staff at this wonderful bed and breakfast eliminate the stress for you. There are no such people as strangers to the staff here. You are welcomed as family and treated as family. Not only will the MCGH provide a safe haven of comfort and care, but you get to experience some of the true love of the Ethiopian people. You are definately missing out if you stay somewhere else!

We recently returned from our first trip to Ethiopia and stayed at Family Morning Coffee Guesthouse. Birtukan, Nesibu, and their staff made every effort to enfold us as family: creating an American-style Christmas for those of us who were far from home, serving amazing (repeat, amazing!) food at every meal, welcoming us with smiles and hugs, and even offering us the opportunity to join the festivities at an Ethiopian wedding. We hope to return to Ethiopia soon and will most definitely be found at Morning Coffee, our new home on the other side of the world. Ammasegenalo (thank you), Birtukan and Nesibu!

  11. Alli, Kevin, Tamene, and Dagim says:

We can’t thank Birtukan and Nesibu and their family and staff enough for their kindness and hospitality.

My family had to stay and extra week with no notice. Birtukan and her husband immediately made arrangements for us to stay, and they even threw me a surprise birthday party – complete with chocolate chip cake – since we were held over in Addis on my birthday. When as a new mom, I worried my son was sick, she took a look at him and assured me he was ok. To put my mind at ease, she had the district nurse there in minutes. She helped my two boys get excited about their big trip on the airplane and their transition to life with us at home.

Of course, the food was fabulous and the home was friendly, clean, comfortable, inviting, so perfect for our adventure together.

My boys still talk about Birtukan and the guesthouse sometimes. I am tearing up a little thinking about the kindness we were shown at Morning Coffee and how important it was to our family. Can’t recommend them enough. Lots of love to them. : )

  12. If you are coming to Addis Ababa, you want to stay here! Birtukan and her very attentive staff welcomed us, for the 4th time!, into their guesthouse two weeks ago. We were treated as family. Our room was large and clean, with a nice balcony from which to enjoy the neighborhood in the evening. The food was beyond delicious (a Mexi-feast with guacamole even!), as was the coffee and tea that were constantly offered to us. Birtukan went out of her way to teach me how to buy my own coffee pot from the local market, how to make shiro wat and how to do the coffee ceremony. We will continue to choose Morning Coffee Guesthouse whenever we are in Addis Ababa. Ahmesegenalo!

  13. Kristi Schelhaas says:

If you are traveling to Addis Ababa, I highly encouraged you to stay at the Family Morning Coffee Guesthouse. The accommodations, food, and in-country support are all beyond compare.

I had the pleasure of staying at the new location last month. It was beautiful. The view from the terrace is glorious as you can see the sprawling city in all directions surrounded by mountains. Inside is immaculate! My 4 friends and I each enjoyed our own spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms. The beds were comfortable and we were able to enjoy warm showers daily. The gathering area was utilized often as we spent time around the table talking or lounging on the couches in our spare time.

I cannot say enough about the food! It is so delicious – everyone at home thinks that you lose weight traveling to Ethiopia but when Birtukan is taking care of you, that is almost impossible! The endless coffee and tea is an added bonus.

Without a doubt, the best part about staying at the Family Morning Coffee Guesthouse is the support given by the staff, Birtukan, and her family. It is so comforting to be taken care of when so far from home. They look out for you and make sure you have everything that you need and that you are comfortable.

The Family Morning Coffee Guesthouse has become my home away from home! I can’t wait to get back there!

  14. My family and I recently stayed at MCGH for the 5th time. It is so wonderful to come home to Birtukan and her staff!

As always, Birtukan goes out of her way to take care of her guests: arranging an airport pick-up late in the night, being flexible with meals (I am a vegetarian.) and times, arranging contract taxis, helping to buy spices and coffee, receiving phone calls for us and always inviting us to coffee ceremonies.

The location of the new guesthouse is very convenient. It is very comfortable to walk around the neighborhood. And from the rooftop, you can see all of Addis Ababa. Gorgeous!

I will continue to return to my Ethiopian home away from home, Birtukan’s Morning Coffee Guesthouse.

  15. Peter Ippel says:

My family and I spent much of the fall in Ethiopia and all of it was at Morning Coffee Guest House. This is a place where you are treated as family, not as a guest. The staff took excellent care of us the whole time–wonderful meals, coffee and tea whenever we asked, help with translation, teaching us about Ethiopian food and how to prepare it, helping us with shopping, and most of all their caring kindness. They treated our children as their own and became close friends. It was hard to say good-bye.
We cannot wait for the day when we can return to Ethiopia and back to our family at the Morning Coffee Guest House.
    Thank you for everything!

  16. Greg Sund says:

Family Morning Coffee Guesthouse is incredible. We have stayed at FMCGH multiple times and each time has been a special treat for me and my family. The hospitality of Birtukan is unmatched. The food is the best I have had anywhere in Ethiopia. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a beautiful common lounge where we have enjoyed meeting dozens of families. There is a rooftop deck with 360 degree views of Addis Ababa that I believe have to be the best in the city. The location is close enough to amenities, but just far enough off the road to feel quite and peaceful. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It is a very special place.

  17. Dan and Heather Reisig says:

We can not thank Birtukan, Nesibu and their family enough for making our first time stay in Ethiopia an awesome trip. Between the delicious meals to the helping with shopping, she and her staff made us feel at home. If we ever get to Ethiopia again we will definitely be staying with Birtukan again. They are now a part of our family.

  18. Engelsma Family says:

We had a wonderful stay here at the end of February 2015. The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable — this place feels like home! Birtukan, the owner, is very kind and did her best to make us comfortable. The food was wonderful and ranged from traditional Ethiopian dishes (very good!) to pasta dishes that tasted much like something you would order from a fine Italian restaurant back home in the U.S.

Our room (on the south side) had a nice view down the road which forks at the guesthouse. In the morning, we could watch people walking to work, processions of burros carrying loads and guided by the locals, as well as school children going to school. We had a very comfortable bed along with a clean private bath with shower.

The kids’ playroom upstairs was great for our child to run off steam and play with new friends. We also enjoyed the open rooftop which provides amazing views across Addis Ababa. Internet access was available via wifi which allowed us to stay in touch with friends and family back home. Transportation arrangements were handled by Birtukan and were priced reasonably. The neighborhood is safe and the people are friendly — we felt safe at all times.

We consider the Family Morning Coffee Guest House to be our home away from home when we visit Addis Ababa. We look forward to returning there soon!

We were so blessed by Birtukan and her family, while staying at The Family Morning Coffee Gurst House. We could not have been happier. We stayed at the guest house during our court stay and Embassy stay. Birtukan made us feel right at home. She was so pleasant and gracious and made us feel like family. On our first trip, we were the only guests, so she upgraded our room for no charge. On our second trip, I got stuck with our new son at the airport and had to stay an unexpected night and she did not even charge us! She prayed with us and calmed my worries. I would never stay anywhere else! Her food, coffee and smoothies also amazing!!! You will love it there!

  20. Pedersen Family says:

My husband and I stayed at the Family Morning Coffee guesthouse recently when we traveled to Ethiopia to adopt our two year old son. The owners were so gracious and helpful as we embarked on our new parenthood journey. Everything from the incredible meals to the well equipped room and private full bath made the guesthouse feel like our home away from home. We plan to return to Ethiopia often with our two sons and we will always stay with Birtukan, our new Ethiopian family!

  21. Matthew Bell says:

My wife and newly adopted son stayed at Family Morning Coffee Guest House from 8/7/15 to 8/20/15 while we worked through government processed to get our sons visa so we could bring him back to the US. If it wasn’t for Birtukan and Nesibu’s hospitality and facility it would have have been unbearible. The rooms are clean comfortable. The food was delicous, healthy, and higenically perpared. Their staff is also welcoming and kind. Birtukan is very good a providing even the little things to make your stay in Addis Ababa more comforatble, clean filtered water, pancakes, peanut butter, Aunt Jemima’s syrup, pizza, fruit smoothies, play room for kids… Even the surrounding is beautiful with pine and eucylyptus trees, mountain fresh area above the smog of the city.

Birtukan and Nesibu, Thank you very much for your good care of us.

We loved FMC! We recently adopted a four year little boy. FMC was a perfect place to bond with him. The play room was very nice to play in. It was great to have Birtukan’s kids there to play with. The food was amazing and the staff was so very helpful to our family!!! I would recommend FMC to anyone, we will be forever blessed by FMC.
